Braam Malherbe

Braam recently returned from Antarctica, where he took part in the grueling Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race to the Pole. Braam and Peter van Kets (“Out There” Adventurer of the Year 2011) represented South Africa in one of the most extreme races in the world, a 704km odyssey across Antarctica to mark the centenary of the first-ever trip to the South Pole in 1912. They finished the race on 29 January 2012 in third place – not bad for two South Africans on skis!

Braam is also a presenter of the newly re-launched Wildlife Programme “50/50” on SABC2! Braam’s segment is called “Get Connected with Braam”

On the 15th of December 2006 Braam, along with his running partner David Grier, became the first people to run the entire length of the Great Wall of China - that's over 4200km! This run broke several endurance records - 98 days of running a full marathon per day - in addition to being a world first! Braam's epic journey across the Gobi Desert, into the mountains of north China, and down to the Yellow Sea, was also a vehicle for raising money for Operation Smile.

This charity facilitates reconstructive surgery for impoverished children born with facial deformities, such as cleft palates. Several surgeries took place while he was running.

Braam and David have been named the 2006 “Out There” magazine Adventurers of the Year’, beating out other legendary international adventurers such as Mike Horn for the title.

On the 8th of October 2008, Braam and David finished the Cipla Spar Miles for Smiles Coastal Challenge, which saw them run a distance of 3 500km around the foot of Africa in the name of charity! As before, all proceeds will go to Operation Smile.

The Coastal Challenge started on the 1st of July from Oranjemund in Namibia, and concluded on the 8th of October 2008. Malherbe and Grier ran 45km a day for 6 days a week, in the shape of a smile as they made their way around Africa's southern coastline to Ponto D'Ouro in Mozambique.

Most of their route saw the pair travel along South Africa's coastline. Speaking to the Cape Times Malherbe said, "Because of all the negative feelings and the bad economy, we wanted to focus our challenge around our home country - for inspiration and to let people know that anything is possible."

As well as an endurance athlete, environmentalist and humanitarian (specifically youth development), Braam is an energetic and accomplished speaker –with a story not to be missed!

What our clients say ...

"Unlike other motivational speakers that I have listened to, Braam has the ability to capture his audience's attention by relating to real live issues that have affected all of us at some stage in our lives or careers. He delivers his presentation from the heart, and thus leaves his audience with a lot of enthusiastic fire in their own hearts, and leaves them with the will to got out there and conquer their own worlds!"
Dominique Lejeune, Divisional Executive: KZN,
Audi Centre Umhlanga

"Braam is more than motivational - he is inspirational! He tells an amazing story of an incredible accomplishment which everybody should hear. Braam’s talk definitely adds a WOW to any programme, he brings something very special. I would highly recommend him."
Jeanette Marais, Deputy Director: Distribution and Client Services, Allan Gray Investor Services

"I wanted to commend you on your recent presentation at the annual Sun Partner Executive Summit. In my field, I have personally been exposed to a large number of "motivational / guest
speakers" at events and conferences, and your message, both delivery and its content, way surpassed anything I have ever seen. I believe
the most important element was that you close by showing the results of your efforts, the smiles on those children's faces. What a priceless experience, and you share it with an audience in the most professional and engaging manner. I received exceptionally positive feedback from my delegates and management, and think it's the first
time in my career I have seen a motivational speaker literally bring an audience of predominently men to tears."
Claire Alexander, Regional Marketing Manager: Sub Sahara Africa, Sun MicroSystems

"A very inspiring, touching, honest, motivated presentation, which came from the heart!"
Bobby Lamont, Regional Manager: Broker Division, Sanlam Sky Solutions

"This presentation was very inspirational, and the key message about perseverance and belief in self was very relevant to the audience. The feedback from the delegates was very positive!"
Riëtte Ackermann, Programme Manager, GIBS

"I would like to thank you sincerely for the great presentation at our Convention. You certainly contributed enormously to the huge success of our best Convention ever!!"
Ray Whitmore, Managing Director, Build-It

"I don't think anyone can listen to Braam describe his journey and not be moved... and compelled to figure out what good each of us can do."
Francois Rozon, MD, Appletiser

"Thought-provoking, inspirational, honest, humbling and an honour to listen to."
Pierre Pretorius, Technical Director, Appletiser

"Awesome presentation which Braam fitted into our theme. Motivating story, presented in a world-class audio visual format."
Ray Whitmore, Managing Director, Spar Build-It

"Exceeded all expectations - an enriching experience. The learnings from this fascinating event can be applied effectively at work or at home. Don't miss it!"
Eugene Benecke, Managing Executive: Millbake, Tiger Brands

"An epic story of courage, tenacity and the will to reach the goal in the face of adversity . A very human story delivered by an “ordinary guy“ who has infinite belief in himself and the cause that he represents. Braam is inspirational, does not lecture, but keeps the tone on a personal level leaving you feeling that “Yes anything is possible“ - it's really up to the individual to chase their belief to their ultimate, whatever that is .
We were continually reminded that it was not “I“ but we, we did as a team and that strife in a team really just needs good humane guidance and a goal lead by constant reminder that each and every little win adds up to the big win for all."
Carl Wakeham, Director, Underline Advertising
